SITE USE FOR PHOTOGRAPHY SESSIONS
If the purpose of your visit to Gari Melchers Home and Studio is for photography, a reservation is required. Reservations can be made with Lindy Lynn, Visitor Services Manager, 540 654-1843 or llynn@umw.edu. Please provide in your reservation request the date, time, number of people and the photographer type (amateur or professional). This is to prevent overscheduling groups that request the same timeframe and ensure access.
The advance reservation requirement is waived for prom and homecoming photography sessions.
Photography is restricted to the daily hours of operation. Sessions must conclude 15 minutes prior to closing. Restrictions may apply due to museum programs, public and private events, staffing or adjustments in operating hours.
Photography sessions are restricted to the gardens and grounds.
All photography guests are required to check in at the Visitor Center before beginning their session. At check in, photography guests will be given a copy of the site photography regulations to review and sign. Photographers must sign and carry a copy of the photography regulations with them during their session. Those who fail to register or check in before their session will be denied session privileges.
Photography Types and Fees
Professional (for which income is derived) photography incurs a $50.00 site use fee. Payment will be collected at time of check in.
Amateur (for which no income is derived) photography does not incur a site use fee. Amateur photographers are expected to adhere to all photography guidelines, including advance reservation.
Prom and Homecoming
The grounds at Gari Melchers Home and Studio can provide a picturesque backdrop for prom and homecoming photos, but please note that photography sessions are limited by dates and times and contingent on site capacity.
All persons taking prom and homecoming photos will, upon arrival, fill out and sign a Photography Regulations form and receive a permit for the activity.
Prom/homecoming photography will be allowed on GMHS property on the dates of schools’ respective events between the hours of 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM unless a previously-scheduled event is taking place.
We appreciate you reviewing the guidelines prior to your visit and following the instructions of staff to ensure the safety of vehicles and pedestrians and the continued enjoyment of this National Historic Site.
